Increasing Power Protection Demands Reflect VAR Uninterruptible Power Supply

October 02, 2012

By Ed Silverstein - Power Protection Contributor

Value added resellers (VARs) need to update their uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs) to meet new power protection demands that come with moving to a virtualized server and storage environment. It’s inevitable, and equally important to keep in mind moving forward when considering reliable power protection and UPS.

Moves, equipment additions, and changes can place power infrastructure at risk of overload, tripped circuits and shutdowns.

Customers want a turnkey solution, and resellers will use the correct infrastructure and IT environment, Menon added. Users need a complete power protection solution.

Also, most VARs overlook UPS placement and do not consider battery backup and power protection as a key requirement. Systemic planning to get past infrastructure is just the beginning steps to securing power efficiency. Additionally, there is an impact on virtualization from the need for battery backup of the physical assets in the virtual environment.

To come up with a sale, VARs need to understand the customer’s requirements. VARs do not necessarily have power expertise, so power audits and on-site assessments may reveal weaknesses and vulnerabilities.

In a related matter, Minuteman UPS/Para Systems’ (News - Alert) UPSs are a prime choice for meeting any unique power protection need, according to a company statement.
