Disney (News - Alert) is the happiest place on Earth…until the power goes out and you’re trapped on an indoor roller coaster like Space Mountain, surrounded by darkness. This would be a nightmare for just about anyone. Unfortunately, that’s what happened to many people this week. Thousands in Anaheim lost power amid an outage that affected the entire area, including Disneyland.
While your customers may not suffer a head rush from being stuck upside down on a roller coaster due to power loss, there are plenty of other negative outcomes that can result from being unprepared for a power outage.
The power outage in question affected areas near Anaheim Boulevard and Katella Avenue, as well as near Harbor Boulevard and Katella Avenue. According to NBC Los Angeles, “During the outage, firefighters received at least five calls reporting people trapped in elevators at hotels, including the Anaheim Carriage Inn, Anaheim Desert Inn, Best Western and Hyatt.” Riders at Disneyland also reported getting stuck on attractions during the outage because workers had to reset the rides. Anaheim Public Utilities reported that 4,400 customers lost power during the outage. Disneyland only lost power initially before backup generators kicked in, but surrounding areas were blacked out for about 40 minutes.
Getting stuck in elevators or upside down on a roller coaster are only some of the horrors that can result from power outages. On a smaller scale, your business can suffer greatly if you’re not prepared for unexpected power loss. You can make sure that your business avoids the chaos associated with the aftermath of outages by having backup power systems in place.
Uninterruptable power supply (UPS) backups are essential to ensuring that your business doesn’t suffer massive data losses due to an outage. There are many benefits to power protection. It is a key component in making sure that your employees don’t lose all of their work when the power is lost. Since many people don’t regularly save or backup their work, an unexpected computer shutdown could potentially be catastrophic; people have been known to lose hours worth of work due to an unexpected outage. These outages also result in massive amounts of time lost, since no one can get any work done. That’s bad for employee productivity and your business as a whole, since no transactions can be enabled on your end without phones or a computer. That’s why UPS backups can play a large role in saving your business.
Disneyland’s customers only suffered for a brief period of time thanks to backup generators. Plus, it’s hard to be upset for too long when you’re visiting the happiest place on Earth. Your employees, on the other hand, won’t be too happy if they lose hours of work because of something as preventable as power loss. So, be smart and protect your business by investing in backup power systems.
